CITC organized the COP21 side event “Sustainable Development and Climate Change –Toward enhancing the role of capacity development for implementation of INDCs in the ASEAN countries –”

Climate Change International Technical and Training Center (CITC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC) organized the COP21 side event, “Sustainable Development and Climate Change: Toward enhancing the role of capacity development for implementation of INDCs in the ASEAN countries”, on Thursday, 3 December 2015 at Japan Pavilion, Paris, France. The objectives are as follows;

>> To aware the importance of relationship between sustainable development agenda and climate change agenda.

>> To discuss and exchange views and opinions about capacity development experiences, needs and lesson learned, especially focusing on practical capacity development activities for real actions.

>> To introduce CITC’s activities especially training and networking services among sustainable development topics and climate change topics.

This event placed an importance to the issues on the interlinkage between sustainable development and climate change, and discussion about needs and roles of capacity development in implementation of climate change policies and plans includes INDCs. We received an honor from speakers from UNDP presented about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and from ASEAN Secretariat presented about ASEAN’s climate change related actions including “ASEAN Community’s Post-2015 Vision” and “ASCC Blueprint 2025 on Environment & Climate Change”. On the discussion session, the panelists from ASEAN countries (Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand) had shared their implementation related to climate change (INDC and NAMA) as well as capacity needs in their countries. There were more than 70 participants joined the event.
