Press Conference on “JICA support climate change capacity building activity in Thailand and ASEAN”

On February 2017, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) organized the press conference on “JICA support climate change capacity building activity in Thailand and ASEAN” at MONRE. In this regards, Dr. Natarika Wayuparb, Deputy Executive Director and Dr. Jakkanit Kananurak, Director of Capacity Building and Outreach Office had participated the event.

The impact of climate change has been becoming serious and more frequent and it affects to all aspects including social, environment and economy. Japan and Thailand realized on the importance of capacity building activity for related stakeholders to understand more on the climate change issue and to accelerate the climate actions, therefore, TGO established Climate Change International Technical and Training Center (CITC) with aiming to be a learning center on climate change for ASEAN with a support from Japan Government through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since 2014-2016.

With the successful implementation from the first period, JICA will continually support CITC for the next 3 years from 2017-2020 for the project “Project for Capacity Development to accelerate Low Carbon and Resilient Society realization in the Southeast Asia Region”. The capacity building activities include;

  1. Continuous improvement of regular training courses in CITC;
  • Greenhouse Gas Inventory
  • Climate Change Management and Sustainable Development
  • Mitigation Mechanism
  • Climate Finance and Economics of Climate Change
  1. Develop new “Signature training course” to support planning and/or implementation of climate change activities in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries;
  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Policy, Legislation and Regulations on Climate Change
  • Climate Change and Forestry
  • Climate Change and Water Resources Management and Agriculture
  • Climate Change and Disaster Management
  1. Promote bilateral cooperation on climate change;
  2. Enhance CITC network in Southeast Asean Region; and
  3. Disseminate lessons to be learned through media, publications and organized events/seminars
