CITC Organized Workshop On “Low Carbon And Resilient Society Development” At Hat Yai

Nowadays, the issue on climate change impact, greenhouse gas emission reduction and low carbon society has got an attention to all levels, international, regional, national and local. For Thailand, this matter is mentioned in the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2012-2016) on the topic of paradigm shift to green and low carbon society and capacity building on adaptation to reduce vulnerabilities to climate change impact.
Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO has realized the importance of the above issues and has established Climate Change International Technical and Training Center (CITC) as a “Center of Excellence on Climate Change” for Southeast Asia region. The main activity of CITC is to provide training, establish networking platform, disseminate knowledge and to be a learning resource center on climate change mitigation and adaptation. The target groups of CITC are governmental agencies, academic institutions, private companies related to mitigation and adaptation, and general public.
During 5-6 march 2015, CITC cooperated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Had Yai municipality and Prince of Songkla University organized the workshop on “Low Carbon and Resilient Society Development” for local government executives which is one of the highlight curriculums developed by CITC. The workshop composed of presentations from local municipalities, academic sector and experts from Japan, discussions among municipalities and site visit on municipal waste management and incineration with gasification and melting technology. The workshop participants were executives from municipalities, mayors, vice mayors for more than 30 municipalities.
