TGO, in collaboration with 24 municipalities, to report greenhouse gas emissions of local administrative organizations for a sustainable low-carbon city.

           On December 13, 2021, Mr. Kiatchai Maitriwong, Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization or TGO, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with executives of 24 Local Administrative Organizations (LAOs) on the cooperation to implement the “Promotion of Carbon Footprint for Local Administrative Organization (Local CFO) Project”. The MOU ceremony was honorably presided by Mr. Prayoon Rattanasenee, Director – General of the Department of Local Administration (DLA). Dr. Pongvipa Lohsomboon, Deputy Executive Director, including executives and staff from TGO, DLA and LAO officials, and other interested parties, joined the ceremony as witnesses at Kinaree Room 1 Amari Hotel, Don Muang Airport, Bangkok. The ceremony was also broadcast via the Facebook Live Streaming of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization).

          The MOU is integrated cooperation aiming to build the capacity of LAOs staff to understand the principles and be able to calculate greenhouse gases emissions, which is known as the "Carbon Footprint", of their organizations and to encourage LAOs to implement the greenhouse gas emission reduction activities based on their carbon footprint data by identifying greenhouse gas reduction measures and its reduction potential, including analyzing technical and economic feasibilities of these activities to formulate a greenhouse gas reduction plan that is consistent with the context of the LAOs.

          There was a training workshop on the calculation of Carbon Footprint of LAOs and the introduction of the Online Greenhouse Gas Reporting System for the LAOs by Ms.Sumon Sumetchoengprachya, Director of Low Carbon City and Society Office, including technical specialists from TGO and the Institute of Science and Technology Research, Chiang Mai University.
