Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) Development of Curriculum and Knowledge on Greenhouse Gas Reduction from Agriculture Sector

07 Aug 2019

Thailand submitted the Post-2020 national climate change mitigation pledge to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), set a target that the country intends to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 20 – 25 % from the projected business-as-usual level by 2030 in Economy-wide sectors. Although the energy sector has been actively playing a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, however, there is a potential of GHG mitigation in agriculture sector.

From the above-mentioned issues, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and Thailand Greenhouse gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, jointly focus on the preparation and capacity building for tracking greenhouse gas mitigation in Thai agricultural sector to support Thailand’s climate actions towards the NDC target.  In this occasion, Ms Jariya Sutthichaiya, Secretary General of OAE together with Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Secretary General of ONEP joining with Mrs. Prasertsuk Patoonsittichai, Executive Director of TGO mutually signed the “Memorandum of Cooperation on Capacity Building for Tracking Greenhouse Gases Mitigation Measures in Agricultural Sector” on August 7, 2019 at Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok.
