October 27th, 2021, Dr. Pongvipa Lohsomboon, Deputy Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO, the organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), signed a memorandum of cooperation with Mr. Wirat Prapthuk, Director of the Highland Research and Development Institute (Public Organization) or HDRI, aiming to promote and support the highlands communities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions to develop the communities towards a sustainable low-carbon society.
The role of TGO under this memorandum is to provide technical support related to the development of greenhouse gas data, greenhouse gas reduction activities, mitigation measures and plans, including capacity development on low-carbon highlands communities for HRDI staff. While HRDI’s role is to provide information regarding highland development activities and to support TGO in preparation of greenhouse gas inventory, greenhouse gas reduction measures and plans for low-carbon highlands communities development. Both parties will jointly disseminate results of the cooperation and to scale-up the implementation to other communities in the future.
After the MOC signing ceremony, Miss Sumon Sumetchoengprachya, Director of Low Carbon City and Society Office and TGO experts provided a training on greenhouse gas data preparation, the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions and removal for highland communities, including a ready-made program to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions and removal for HRDI staff at the Highland Research and Development Institute (Public Organization), Chiang Mai Province and via video conference.
