Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Projects under Cooperation Project between TGO and REO in B.E. 2563

26 Aug 2020

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO has promoted the development of greenhouse gas emission reduction projects for supporting greenhouse gas mitigation in Thailand through Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER). Every year TGO monitors CDM projects in order to ensure that the projects contribute to sustainable development in Thailand and monitors T-VER projects to check the continuity of greenhouse gas emission reduction. In addition, TGO has cooperation agreement with the Regional Environmental Offices 1-16 or REO 1-16 since B.E. 2555 in order to have a network for monitoring CDM and T-VER projects and build capacity of stakeholders in the area.

In B.E. 2563, TGO assigned REO 1-16 to monitor 35 CDM projects and 16 T-VER projects and also organized a training for building capacity of REO officers between 16-18 December B.E. 2562 in Buriram province. After that, REO 1-16 monitored CDM and T-VER projectsthrough on-site visitsduring January – May B.E. 2563. The monitoring results showed that CDM projects not only reduced greenhouse gas emission but also prevented environmental impacts and supported sustainable development. This is because of most project developers would like to demonstrate corporate social responsibility (CSR). For T-VER projects, project developers installed machines and equipments and collected greenhouse gas emission reduction data as mentioned in the project design documents.
