Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand (MonRE) by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) in collaboration with Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) jointly organized “Webinar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in Thailand – Innovation for Carbon Neutrality through JCM -” on Monday, September 27th, 2021. The webinar aimed at sharing overview and progress of JCM and demonstrated decarbonization technologies and innovations. Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) is the mechanism under the bilateral agreement between the Government of Thailand and Japan which Japan facilitates financial support in order to promote investment and deployment of low carbon technologies, products, systems, services and infrastructure to achieve low carbon growth in Thailand. The verified reductions or removals from the mitigation projects under the JCM or carbon credit can be used for achieving the internationally pledged greenhouse gases mitigation efforts under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The opening remarks were given by Mr. Kiatchai Maitriwong, Executive Director of TGO and Mr. Toru Terai, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan in Thailand. There is 321 Participants from TGO, GEC, JCM Joint Committee, relevant agencies and private companies attending the meeting. This webinar introduced carbon neutral policy of Thailand, role of JCM, financing programme for JCM Model Projects, successful JCM model projects and advanced technologies presented by Dr.Puttipar Rotkittikhun, Director of Project Evaluation and Approval Office and experts from GEC and Thai and Japanese private companies.
