(September 19, 2019) Bangkok: Mrs. Prasertsuk Patoonsittichai, Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO revealed that the 2019 Award Ceremony was held on September 19, 2019 at The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, Bangkok for the 7th consecutive year.
The ceremony aimed to award companies, municipalities, and relevant stakeholders certified under TGO schemes as well as recognize their contributions and efforts in combating climate change. TGO schemes consisted of Thailand Carbon Offsetting Program (T-COP); Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP); Carbon Footprint Reduction (CFR); CoolMode label; Carbon footprint for Organization (CFO) of industrial and municipal sectors; Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS), Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER); Thailand Voluntary Emission Trading Scheme (Thailand V-ETS); Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Index (LCSi); City Carbon Footprint (CCF), etc. Various organizations also exhibited their relevant progress and efforts on climate action in this event, for instance, Green Spot Co., Ltd. (Vitamilk producer); Lion Corporation (Thailand) Limited (Lipon F producer); Cosmos Brewery (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Chang Drinking Water producer); Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO); Kasikorn Bank Public Company Limited, etc.
This year, more than 1,353 participants from government, private, municipal sectors as well as reporters and journalists took part in the event. Mr. Thaneadpon Thanaboonyawat, Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment hosted as chair of the 2019 Award Ceremony for 406 companies, municipalities, and relevant stakeholders certified under TGO schemes which reduced greenhouse gas emission larger than 3,419,849.29 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents or MtCO2-eq. The awards supported more participants in greenhouse house gas emission reduction activities every year which is beneficial to both Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the whole nation.
Under the theme named “It’s perfect time to start action”, the ceremony proposed to enhance more knowledge on situations and impacts from climate change including raise more awareness to participants. These will jointly response to countries’ policy on emission reduction and also induce to low carbon society, disaster management system development and adaptive capacity and option improvement for future climate risks and impacts.
