TGO organized a seminar on “Tax Measure and Climate Solutions" to disseminate tax incentive for carbon credit traders in Thailand

On Friday 26 June, 2020, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO organized a seminar on “Tax Measure and Climate Solutions" at Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok, under the collaboration with the Excise Department and the Fiscal Policy Office. The seminar intends to disseminate tax incentive for carbon credit traders in Thailand as well as other relevant tax measures to public and private organizations.

          In this event, Mr. Kiatchai Maitriwong. Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) gave a welcome remark and opening speech. As an overture, Dr. Pongvipa Lohsomboon, Deputy Director of TGO, gave a presentation on “Carbon Pricing Instrument (CPI) as Supportive Measure for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction” to demonstrate frameworks and tools of CPIs in international and domestic aspects.
        The seminar also invited other 2 distinguish speakers to cooperatively join and share their experiences and perspectives on tax measure in regards to climate solutions; (1) Mr. Nutthakorn Utensute, Director of Planning Bureau, the Excise Department, reflected excise tax measures based on carbon dioxide mission for vehicles. And (2) Dr. Kanchit Kunakorn, Director of Tax Innovation Department, Bureau of Tax Policy, the Fiscal Policy Office showed his vision and perception on biodegradable plastic-supportive tax measures.  Other major issues exhibited in the event were tax incentives for carbon credit sellers under Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER) and Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) projects in Thailand. The issues also covers related rules for tax exemptions after credits were sold and verified by TGO. The seminar beneficially provided significant perspectives of various experts as well as crucial policy makers which could eligibly leads to further enhancement on domestic greenhouse gas emission reduction project developers in order to heighten their activities and support the national mitigation target.
