Thailand Synergized with China and ASEAN Countries on Renewable Energy Transition to Encounter Climate Change and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission

(August 28, 2019) Bangkok: Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand corporately with Mr. ZhenhuaXie, China’s Special Representative on Climate Change and Chair of the Global Climate Action Initiative (GCAI) hosted as chair of ASEAN-China Cooperation on Energy Transition and Climate-resilient Development organized on August 28-29, 2019 at the Peninsula Hotel, Bangkok. The objectives of the conference are to disseminate and share practices and experiences among China and ASEAN member states on low-carbon society planning and renewable energy development in regards to enhance practical greenhouse gas emission reduction as well as achieve Paris Agreement NDCs for each country. The participants were approximately 100 people.

This conference brought officials from ASEAN and international expertise together to discuss and exchange knowledge, opportunities, challenges and best practices on transitioning from fossil-fuel dependency development pattern, resulting to climate change problem, to cleaner renewable energy enhancement. The cleaner-energy-based development pattern will lead to low-carbon society including crucial steps for collaborative actions for cleaner technology and infrastructure investment for renewable-energy related adaptation on climate change.  As the host of the conference, Thailand conducted another crucial role as chair of ASEAN in 2019 in order to disseminate Thailand’s low-carbon implementations and greenhouse gas emission reduction policies to ASEAN member states. These will jointly enhance the “theme” under Thailand’s position of ASEAN chair through the topic named “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” on environment.
