The dialogue on carbon credit from reforestation: guidelines and carbon credit sharing in case of projects located in government areas

10 Sep 2021

On 10 September 2021 H.E. Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment honoured to be the chairman and giving an opening remarks on the dialogue on carbon credit from reforestation: guidelines and carbon credit sharing in case of projects located in government areas. The dialogue was organized by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO), Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and Royal Forest Department (RFD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The dialogue is aimed to create perception in carbon credit sharing regulations and to invite private sectors to join in developing reforestation projects in government areas.  In the dialogue, panelists include Mr. Kiatchai Maitreewong, Director of TGO,  Mr. Adisorn Nuchdamrong, Director-General of RFD and Mr. Apichai Ekwanakul, Deputy Director-General of DMCR.

TGO, RFD and DMCR invited the private sector to develop the reforestation projects in the RFD and DMCR’s area to receive a 90% of carbon credits and another 10% will be allocated to RFD or DMCR who is the area owner.  The announcement of the regulations of both agencies is an important tool that will help motivate the private sector to participate in forest planting.  In particular, carbon credit is an important incentive that the private sector can use for carbon offsetting activities, exchange or use for reporting as an indicator of corporate sustainability indices.
