Webinar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in Thailand - Utilizing the JCM during the COVID -19 Period

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO, Ministry of the Environment of Japan and Global Environment Centre Foundation, Japan co-organized a webinar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in Thailand - Utilizing the JCM during the COVID-19 Period on 25 August 2020. The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) is a mechanism jointly created and implemented under an agreement between Thailand and the Government of Japan. Under JCM, Thai project participants receive financial support from the Government of Japan to implement low-carbon technologies and allocate some amount of the carbon credits to the Japanese side for achieving Japan’s GHG emissions reduction targets.

On 14 September 2020, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with Chiang Mai University organized a seminar to disseminate the achievements of the Project named “Integrating Climate Actions into the EEC: Towards Low-Carbon Industry” at Pullman Pattaya Hotel G, Chonburi Province. Ms.Sumon Sumetchoengprachya, Director of Low Carbon City and Society Office presided over the opening of the seminar.

Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Projects under Cooperation Project between TGO and REO in B.E. 2563

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO has promoted the development of greenhouse gas emission reduction projects for supporting greenhouse gas mitigation in Thailand through Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER). Every year TGO monitors CDM projects in order to ensure that the projects contribute to sustainable development in Thailand and monitors T-VER projects to check the continuity of greenhouse gas emission reduction. In addition, TGO has cooperation agreement with the Regional Environmental Offices 1-16 or REO 1-16 since B.E. 2555 in order to have a network for monitoring CDM and T-VER projects and build capacity of stakeholders in the area.

Chiang Mai : Aug 11, 2020, TGO held a weekly press conference to publicize the ‘Low Carbon Demonstration Project Implementation for Chiang Mai Municipality’ at Chiangmai City Hall. The topic focuses on "Improvement of Public Transport system in Chiang Mai Municipality" with an objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 70,000 tCO2eq. from improvement of public transportation services and reduce traffic congestion.

TGO verified Nong Khai Municipality Greenhouse Gas Emission Report

On 5th August 2020, representatives from Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO and Research Unit for Energy Economics & Ecological Management, Science and Technology Research Institute, Chiang Mai University conducted the verification of "Nong Khai Municipality Greenhouse Gas Emission Report" which was prepared under the Carbon Footprint for Local Administrative Organization (local CFO) project at Nong Khai Municipality. The opening of the verification was honorably presided by Miss Sumon Sumetchoengprachya, Director of Low Carbon City and Society Office.

TGO cooperated with SEC to encourage listed-companies in Thailand to report their Greenhouse Gas Emission

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO has crucial missions on capacity enhancing; technical advices providing for public and private sectors’ greenhouse gas management and reporting; supporting for greenhouse gas emission reduction and it’s impacts evaluation including the greenhouse gases emission reduction project registration; certification and emission reduction tracking in support of national policies. Securities and Exchange Commission, Thailand (SEC) has major tasks to promote; develop; supervise the capital market; as well as fund mobilization products and services, related business operators, security trading activities in the capital market. Furthermore SEC’s mission fundamentally count on assuring enabling environment for a fair; efficient; dynamic and inclusive capital market in coverage with climate change aspects leading to enhance national development and achieve United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, in 2030.

Bangkok: Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning or ONEP together with Srinakharinwirot University organized the dissemination meeting on “Preparation of Database Information System to Support Policy Decisions for International Cooperation on Climate Change Project” on 14 August 2020 at Athenee Crystal Hall, The Athenee Hotel Bangkok. The meeting was honorably presided by Dr. Pirun Saiyasitpanich, the Deputy Secretary General of ONEP, and reported by Dr. Natthanich Asvapoositkul, the Director of Climate Change Management and Coordination Division, ONEP. TGO organized a seminar on “Tax Measure and Climate Solutions" to disseminate tax incentive for carbon credit traders in Thailand

On Friday 26 June, 2020, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO organized a seminar on “Tax Measure and Climate Solutions" at Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok, under the collaboration with the Excise Department and the Fiscal Policy Office. The seminar intends to disseminate tax incentive for carbon credit traders in Thailand as well as other relevant tax measures to public and private organizations.
