TGO attended the United Nation Climate Change Conference 2019 (COP25) at Madrid, Spain

Dr. Natarika Wayuparb Nitiphon, Deputy Executive Director of Thailand Greenhouse gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO and Mr.Thawatchai Saengkhamsuk, Director of Climate Change International Technical and Training Center or CITC attended the United Nation Climate Change Conference 2019 (COP25) at Madrid, Spain. The objective of the event was to promote capacity building on climate change and CITC’s implementation.

Thailand Synergized with China and ASEAN Countries on Renewable Energy Transition to Encounter Climate Change and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emission

(August 28, 2019) Bangkok: Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand corporately with Mr. ZhenhuaXie, China’s Special Representative on Climate Change and Chair of the Global Climate Action Initiative (GCAI) hosted as chair of ASEAN-China Cooperation on Energy Transition and Climate-resilient Development organized on August 28-29, 2019 at the Peninsula Hotel, Bangkok. The objectives of the conference are to disseminate and share practices and experiences among China and ASEAN member states on low-carbon society planning and renewable energy development in regards to enhance practical greenhouse gas emission reduction as well as achieve Paris Agreement NDCs for each country. The participants were approximately 100 people.

Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) Development of Curriculum and Knowledge on Greenhouse Gas Reduction from Agriculture Sector

Thailand submitted the Post-2020 national climate change mitigation pledge to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), set a target that the country intends to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 20 – 25 % from the projected business-as-usual level by 2030 in Economy-wide sectors. Although the energy sector has been actively playing a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, however, there is a potential of GHG mitigation in agriculture sector.

UNDP, CP ALL and TGO mutually sign the MOU to Reduce Plastic Waste, Combat Global Warming and Promote SDG

According to the UNEP’s statistics ‘one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5,000,000,000,000 single-use plastic bags are consumed worldwide every year. About 8,000,000 tons of plastic waste is dumped in the ocean annually and marine animals receive toxic chemicals from ingesting plastic waste’.

TGO initiates the Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Index (LCSI)

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has approved and certified greenhouse gas emission reduction units, or so called “Carbon Credits”, and low carbon projects since 2012. TGO encourages public and private sectors to develop greenhouse gas emission reduction projects and activities through various schemes, namely CDM carbon credit, T-VER carbon credit, Carbon Footprint for Products, Carbon Footprint for Organization and so on.

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Organization and Germany’s Future of the Carbon Market Foundation Agrees to Finance 1.8 Million Euros from 2015-2020 for Supporting Low Carbon City Programme in Thailand

Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, or TGO, a certified body of Thailand’s carbon credits - under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, collaborates with the Future of the Carbon Market Foundation located in Germany reached the conclusion to provide financial support to Thailand’s voluntary carbon credits for low carbon city programme. Over a year of discussions by these two organizations, the Foundation agrees with TGO to give finance to the local administrative organizations in Thailand if they could generate Thailand’s carbon credit and being certified by TGO. The carbon pricing of the financial support to the local administrative organization will be at 8 Euros per tonne of CO2 equivalent, or per TVERS, which is a type of carbon credit certified by TGO under the scheme called Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction, or T-VER.
